NEW YORK - MSNBC.com says it has chosen the online ad network YuMe Inc. to provide targeted advertising for its online videos.

YuMe, a Redwood City, Calif., startup, will power the online video advertising for NBC's "Nightly News" and the "Today" show and sell any leftover inventory of ad space.

MSNBC says the deal offers marketers the opportunity to reach a wide audience as their videos traverse the Internet. Anyone can embed the network's video segments on their own Web site, expanding the reach of individual clips based on how popular they become.

MSNBC is a joint venture between Microsoft Corp. and General Electric Co.'s NBC Universal.
