LDK Solar signs supply deal for Italy solar plants
SUNNYVALE, Calif. - LDK Solar Co. on Wednesday said it signed a contract with Italy-based systems integrator SAEM Srl to build five one-megawatt photovoltaic plants in the Apulia region of Italy.
LDK, a maker of multicrystalline solar wafers that go into solar cells, said it will supply wafers for the project and SAEM will provide engineering, procurement and construction services, along with system integration. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Photovoltaic plants convert solar energy into electricity.
Construction of the plants will begin in July, with an expected completion date of November, the China-based company said.
