Daimler US sales decline 26.5 percent in June

NEW YORK - Daimler AG said Wednesday that combined U.S. sales for its Mercedes-Benz and smart micro-cars fell nearly 26.5 percent in June compared with the same month a year earlier.

U.S. sales by the German automaker totaled 16,271, down from 22,121 in June 2008.

The company said it sold 15,155 Mercedes-Benz vehicles, a nearly 22.6 percent decline from a year earlier. Sales of the most popular models were 4,583 in the C-class, 2,781 in the E-class, and 2,362 in the M-class.

The smart USA line of micro-cars sold 1,116 units in June, a decline of 56.2 percent.

Through the end of June, the company's total U.S. sales for 2009 were down 28.3 percent, totaling 93,655.
