On July 2nd, 1962 a struggling retailer opened an 18,000 square foot discount store in Rogers, Arkansas. Within five years, the now famous owner had added 24 stores in the state generating $12 million in sales.
By the company's twenty-fifth anniversary in 1987, there were 1,198 stores with sales of $15.9 billion and 200,000 associates
Today, there are more than 4,000 of these stores nationwide with annual sales topping $400 billion per year.
