HONOLULU - Prices of existing Oahu houses and condominiums continued to fall in June compared with last year, but they increased since May.

The Honolulu Board of Realtors reports Thursday that single-family home prices declined 9 percent from June 2008 to a median of $569,000 last month. Condominium median resale prices dropped 5.3 percent to $310,000.

Home prices were up 3.5 percent from May's median of $550,000, and condos rose 1.6 percent from $305,000.

Board President Sandra Bangerter says she doesn't want to seem overly optimistic, but the figures could signal that Oahu is nearing the bottom of the current slump.

The number of home sales went up in June by 9.5 percent, with 254 houses changing hands compared with 232 last year. However, condo sales were down 17 percent.
