AIX-EN-PROVENCE, France, July 5 (Reuters) - Declarations by U.S. officials that they are committed to a strong currency are extremely important, European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet said on Sunday. Asked whether the U.S. dollar should remain the world's leading reserve currency, he said: "On this issue, I am very very clear. I have just one message...It is extremely important that the United States of America ... has been ...saying that a strong dollar is in the interests of the United States of America." "I consider that extremely important and I welcome this declaration," he added.
