SAN CARLOS, Calif. - Natus Medical Inc., which makes medical devices used for newborn care, said Monday it bought privately held Hawaii Medical LLC for $2.9 million in cash.

The buyout of Pembroke, Mass.-based Hawaii Medical will expand the company's line of disposable products used in hospital nurseries and intensive care units. Hawaii Medical may receive additional consideration for meeting certain revenue targets. Natus completed the buyout Thursday.

Hawaii Medical had revenue of about $3.2 million during the 12-month period ended June 30. Natus said it expects the deal to add to profit starting the first full quarter of ownership.
