MCLEAN, Va. - Gannett Co., the largest newspaper publisher in the U.S., tapped a new corporate communications chief Tuesday.

The company named Robin Pence, formerly head of international communications at the power company AES Corp., to the post. She has held similar positions at Sprint Nextel Corp. and the Federal Communications Commission.

Pence replaces Tara Connell, who was named vice president of ContentOne, a Gannett initiative launched late last year aimed at rethinking how the company's properties gather and sell content.
