ZURICH - The Swiss Foreign Minister says she will travel to Washington later this month to discuss the U.S. lawsuit against UBS AG with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Micheline Calmy-Rey says the talks planned for July 31 will cover "all current bilateral issues" including protecting Switzerland's sovereignty amid U.S. efforts to crack the Alpine nation's tradition of banking secrecy.
The visit would take place days before a court hearing in a U.S. tax evasion lawsuit against UBS aimed at forcing the Swiss bank to disclose the names of some 52,000 suspected American tax dodgers.
The hearing was postponed until Aug. 3 to allow time for settlement negotiations.
Calmy-Rey's comments appeared Sunday in an interview with Swiss weekly NZZ am Sonntag.
