Giant, Stop & Shop recall sorbet
WASHINGTON - Two U.S. supermarket chains are removing two sorbet products from their shelves because they may contain milk products not on their labels.
Landover, Md.-based Giant Food and Quincy, Mass.-based Stop & Shop said Friday they would remove the pint-sized containers of lemon and strawberry-flavored sorbet sold under the "Nature's Promise" name. The supermarket chains said they made the decision after being informed by a supplier that the products could contain dairy.
Giant has 182 supermarkets in the mid-Atlantic states, while Stop & Shop has 389 stores in the Northeast. Both are owned by Dutch grocery operator Royal Ahold NV.
