Lloyds Bank [LLOY-LN  Loading...      ()] topped the FTSE 100 Monday, jumping 6.3 percent, with the banking sector in Europe pulling indexes up after reports that CIT Group [CIT  Loading...      ()   ] has worked out a solution to escape bankruptcy.

Insurer Prudential [PRU-LN  Loading...      ()] was also up 6 percent, while Royal Bank of Scotland [RBS-LN  Loading...      ()] rose 5 percent.

Mining companies such as BHP Billiton [BHP-LN  Loading...      ()] and Rio Tinto[RIO-LN  Loading...      ()   ] were also up.

Shares of British Airways [BAY-LN  Loading...      ()], which said it would check passengers for swine flu before boarding its flights, were down more than 1 percent.
