Clash Over WTC Funds Draws in Governor's Office
By: Reuters
New York Governor David Paterson on Monday said his office will negotiate directly with World Trade Center developer Larry Silverstein over his demand for more public dollars to finance two office towers at the site.
The Democratic governor told reporters on a conference call that Silverstein agreed to hold off on turning the clash over to arbitrators for two weeks.
Arbitration could take 6 months to 9 months or even longer, Paterson said, which would further delay the rebuilding, which has already taken years longer than expected after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks destroyed the complex.
