MEXICO CITY - Mexico's state oil company says production fell 7.5 percent in the first six months of the year.
Petroleos Mexicanos, known as Pemex, says its oil output averaged 2.6 billion barrels a day, compared to 2.8 billion barrels during the same period of 2008.
Exports plunged 14.8 percent to 1.2 billion barrels a day during the first half of 2009, compared to 1.4 billion in the year-earlier period.
Mexico is the third-largest oil supplier to the United States. Its reserves are drying up, and Pemex has been slow to explore deep-water deposits.
Lower oil prices, meanwhile, have caused a steep decline in revenues. Pemex said Friday the average price for Mexico crude mix was $47.37 a barrel during the first six months, compared to $93.84 in the first half of 2008.
