CALIFORNIA'S FOR SALE

As promised, the Governor is putting several state surplus items, including 500 vehicles, up for auction this Friday and Saturday to help close the budget gap. But some of those items are already up for sale on eBay and Craigslist.

For example, there's a Honda Hybrid Civic with about 99,000 miles on it for only $5,500 at last check, including a sun visor autographed by Gov. Schwarzenegger!

The Craigslist postings include computers and furniture...and 12 dental chairs.

But jewelry for sale? What? Apparently the state is also selling confiscated goods. One ring is described as "California Highway Patrol Seized Property; Sold as is This ring has not been apraised (sic); however a diamond sensor indicated the stone is real." And could I interest you in the Golden Gate Bridge?

The governor's office says the sale will also include a confiscated racing bike, surfboard and antique piano.

In an effort to get the whole nation to bail us out, State Consumer Services Secretary Fred Aguiar says, "The Great California Garage Sale is not just for Californians. We want everyone to be able to have the opportunity to purchase unique state property and Craigslist and eBay are going to help us do just that."

Save one of the dental chairs for me.
