Singapore, 28 August, 2009 – CNBC, First in Business Worldwide, will broadcast the 8th Asia Business Leaders Awards (ABLA) LIVE for the first time. The event will be broadcast from the Capella hotel in Singapore on November 26, 2009 at 8:00pm (SIN/HK), with a same-day delayed broadcast in the U.S and Europe.

CNBC pioneered the prestigious ABLA to salute remarkable business leaders for their continuing commitment to excellence in Asia. This event gathers the most influential names in both industry and government under one roof to celebrate vision and the spirit of achievement in business leadership.

CNBC’s world-renowned anchor, Maria Bartiromo, will be flying in from the U.S to exclusively host the 8th ABLA. Bartiromo is the host of CNBC’s "Closing Bell" and the host/managing editor of the nationally syndicated "Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo." This year’s ABLA will feature, interview segments, LIVE debates and an award presentation.

"The 8th ABLA is especially important as it recognizes those leaders who have proven sustainability and continued growth during the global financial crisis," said Satpal Brainch, President and Managing Director, CNBC Asia Pacific.

An additional award, the Lifetime Achievement Award, has been added to the list this year. The categories include:
a. Asia Business Leader of the Year
b. Asia Innovator of the Year
c. Asia Talent Management Award
d. Corporate Social Responsibility Award
e. Asia Viewers Choice Award
f. Lifetime Achievement Award

Standard Chartered Bank will be the presenting sponsor for the 8th ABLA. Also sponsoring the event are Mercedes-Benz and Datacraft as the Associate Sponsors, Capella Singapore as the Official Hotel, University of Chicago Graduate School of Business and Development Dimensions International (DDI) as Knowledge and Research Partners and the Financial Times as the Media Partner.

Bala Swaminathan, Senior Managing Director and Regional Head of Origination and Client Coverage, Southern Asia, Standard Chartered Bank said, “Standard Chartered Bank is proud to be the Presenting Sponsor of CNBC’s Asia Business Leaders Awards. As a Bank, we have been a partner to Asia’s business community for the past 150 years.  Asia continues to be one of our most important regions and we are happy to celebrate the recognition of the corporate leaders who contribute to making this one of the most dynamic regions in the world.”

"We are delighted to have Standard Chartered Bank as the main sponsor for this year’s ABLA," Brainch continued. "Not only is this annual event a testament to CNBC’s commitment to the region, but it is an event where Asian leaders can meet, network and share valuable insights to enhance their respective companies."
