If you read the WSJ regularly, you might have noticed an insightful article in Tuesday’s paper about China.

And you might have also noticed it was penned by our very own  Zach Karabell, aka The Academic!

He writes, “By 2030—if not sooner—China is likely to surpass the U.S. in the size of its economy, though it will remain on a per capita basis a much poorer society for many years after that. Trajectories can change, but the recent implosion of the American financial system has only accelerated China's rise."

Yes, you’re right. The editorial seems suspiciously close to the debut of Zach’s book, "Superfusion: How China and America Became One Economy and Why the World's Prosperity Depends on It," just published by Simon & Schuster.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a trade. In fact, to celebrate the launch of his new book Karabell has put together about 8 ways to trade China -- and you'll only find them here.

He says, “the weak dollar increases China as a viable and vibrant market for US goods."

In other words, he feels investors are so focussed on China as a supplier of cheap goods they forget China is also a hotbed of demand -- a source of growth for companies -- especially those based in the US with operations in China.

As a result, Karabell believes the following 'old economy' American companies are attractive.

Karabell's Picks
Honeywell (HON)
United Technologies (UTX)
Yum! Brands (YUM)
Nike (NKE)
Freeport-McMoran (FCX)

But he adds a word of caution. "Don't play China with America's 'new economy' companies such as Google and Yahoo! Instead look at the following ADRs."

More Picks
SINA Corp (SINA)
Baidu (BIDU)
New Oriental (EDU)
