A new survey suggests it might be pretty tough to get shoppers to open their wallets this holiday.
The latest results from Experian and PriceGrabber.com show the major shopping theme this holiday season is likely to be thrift.
52 percent of consumers "are planning to spend less than they did last year."
However, another trend is emerging that could hit the bottom line. "This year, consumers are planning to start their holiday shopping long before Black Friday, with 22 percent of consumers starting their holiday shopping in October and 29 percent starting in November," Experian said.
Although that might sound bullish, if consumers are trying to save by spreading out their purchases, that could be another sign that businesses won't be getting a boost from holiday spending.
