What follows is a roundup of corporate earnings reports for Tuesday, Oct. 20.

Some of the companies that reported better than expected earnings before the bell include the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, the biotechnology company Biogen and the chemical company DuPont.

Caterpillar, though, was the biggest suprise, beating analysts estimates by 60 cents.

Yahoo posted after the bell and beat analysts estimates by six cents.

Caterpillar

The construction machinery manufacturer [CAT  Loading...      ()   ] posted stronger-than-expected earnings and raised its outlook. The company reported earnings of 64 cents per share on revenue of $7.29 billion. Analysts were expecting earnings of six cents per share.
