SAN DIEGO - Science Applications International Corp., or SAIC, said Tuesday it has received a federal contract for program management and technical services for the air transportation system.

The one-year contract has four one-year options and a total value of more than $106 million if all options are exercised.

The Federal Aviation Administration contract is intended to support its NextGen transformation program, moving away from ground-based technology to satellites to reduce congestion and make other improvements.

Work related to the contract will be performed primarily in Washington, D.C., and at FAA locations as required.

Under the contract, the San Diego company will provide program management for safety management systems, aeronautical communications and aviation weather programs.

Shares rose 13 cents to $18.32 in morning trading.
