MONTREAL, Oct 29, 2009 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Speedware Ltd., a leading provider of IT modernization solutions, today announced the signing of a contract to provide legacy modernization services to the Washington State Board for Technical Colleges (SBCTC). This contract is based on the sale of licenses and the provision of support and consulting services over a period of approximately 20 months.
Many organizations, including the SBCTC, rely on mission-critical enterprise applications and databases that run on the HP e3000, a widely-used Hewlett-Packard server that is being discontinued. The SBCTC was seeking a qualified vendor who could develop and execute a "lift and shift" system migration to move the college administrative applications and databases to a new, centralized and sustainable platform.
The college administrative computing systems are the core of operations for all of the Washington State Technical Colleges, supporting not only accounting and human resources, but also student services. With over 34 colleges, the multi-site SBCTC also planned to use virtualization technology to dramatically consolidate the number of servers required to support these applications.
"Speedware's experience in performing successful HP e3000 migrations as well as their ability to handle all aspects of integration were key factors in our decision to award the contract to Speedware," said Michael Scroggins, SBCTC's Deputy Executive Director of Information and Technology.
In total, more than three million lines of code will be migrated as well as numerous databases and third-party utilities.
"Speedware's position as a specialist in legacy modernization, with an unparalleled track record in re-hosting HP e3000 servers, gave us a unique insight into the types of issues the SBCTC was facing." said Andy Kulakowski, General Manager of Speedware. "This allowed us to provide the SBCTC with a customized modernization plan that minimized risk and maximized success at the lowest possible price." About SBCTC The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) is responsible for administering the Community and Technical College Act and providing leadership and coordination for the 34 community and technical colleges in the Washington State system. The office has three main divisions: finance, education and information technology.
