SANTIAGO, Chile, Oct 29, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Sociedad de Inversiones Pampa Calichera S.A. ("Calichera") (Santiago Stock Exchange: CALICHERAA, CALICHARAB) reported earnings for the first nine months of 2009, which reached US$ 69.21 million (US$ 0.046 per share), 39.2% lower than the US$ 113.85 million (US$ 0.077 per share) recorded during the same period of 2008.
The income contribution from SQM, our company's main investment, was US$ 80.54 million (US$ 0.053 per share), down by 33.9% from the US$ 121.94 million (US$ 0.082 per share) reported in 2008.
As of September 30, 2009, current assets had decreased, mainly due to the payment of an interim dividend made during September of 2009. Current liabilities recorded a slight increase with respect to the same period of 2008, altogether resulting in a current ratio of 10.6 (18.1 in 2008).
The debt-to-equity ratio recorded at the end of the third quarter of 2009 was 0.45, almost unchanged from the 0.44 ratio calculated for the same period of 2008.
For the 2009 period, short-term debt to total debt slightly increased to 1.3% from the 1.2% ratio calculated for 2008, and long-term debt to total debt also remained at the 2008 level of 98.8% in 2009.
In terms of profitability, return on equity for the third quarter of 2009 was 12.1%, down from the 19.8% return recorded in the same period of 2008. Return on assets decreased from 13.7% in 2008 to 8.3% in 2009.
