Among the earnings stories for Thursday, Oct. 29, from AP Financial News:

DENVER (AP) — Newmont Mining Corp. said Thursday its third-quarter profit more than doubled as it sold gold and copper at higher prices and cut costs.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Power company American Electric Power said Thursday that its third quarter earnings rose 18 percent as rate increases and cost cutting offset weak demand for electricity from industrial customers.

NEW YORK (AP) — Exchange operator CME Group Inc. said Thursday its third-quarter profit increased 20 percent as cost-cutting and a smaller tax provision offset a 4 percent decline in revenue.

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Brunswick Corp., which makes boats, gym machines and pool tables, said Thursday its third-quarter loss narrowed on a steep drop in restructuring charges.

Waste Management Inc., the nation's largest trash hauler, said Thursday that third-quarter profit sank, despite rising prices for recycled commodities and cost-cutting.

HOUSTON (AP) — Noble Energy Inc. reported sharply lower third-quarter earnings Thursday, as lower commodity prices eroded the oil and gas producer's revenue.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Power company Xcel Energy Inc. said Thursday its third-quarter profit fell less than a percent on lower sales as unseasonably cool weather resulted in lower demand for energy.
