HOUSTON, Nov 02, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Texas Eastern Transmission, LP, a subsidiary of Houston-based Spectra Energy Corp (NYSE: SE), has successfully placed into service its Northern Bridge project, an expansion of its Texas Eastern system that will transport 150 million cubic feet per day (Mmcf/d) of new Rocky Mountain natural gas supplies to Northeast markets.
(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20061030/CLM051LOGO) The Northern Bridge project, which will move gas from the growing Clarington, Ohio, supply point to the Oakford/ Delmont, Pa., region, was constructed entirely within Texas Eastern's existing footprint through the addition of new and enhanced compression in Pennsylvania.
"Northern Bridge is an important part of Spectra Energy's strategy to efficiently and cost-effectively expand our systems to deliver greater volumes of natural gas into the Northeast. Our efforts will increase the region's access to more diverse and reliable supply, while enhancing the deliverability of the interstate transmission grid," said Bill Yardley, group vice president, Spectra Energy Transmission, Northeast.
The Northern Bridge project is just one part of Spectra Energy's broader Northeast growth strategy to deliver new, critically needed natural gas supplies into the region. The company's TEMAX and TIME III projects, currently under review by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, will be the next expansion of the Texas Eastern system to transport new Rockies supplies to major Northeast markets. The TEMAX and TIME III projects will provide approximately 455 Mmcf/d of additional natural gas capacity through several receipt points, including Clarington and Oakford.
During the last seven years, Texas Eastern Transmission has expanded its system in the Northeast corridor by more than 15 percent and the system is now able to move approximately 4.5 billion cubic feet per day from Ohio to the Northeast.
