TORRANCE, Calif., Nov 04, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Less than a month after Aero Component Engineering earned their AS9100 Quality Management System certification, the new business orders have been flying in. While many Southern California companies are downsizing their crews, this ten-employee manufacturer is well on its way to becoming a key player in the global aerospace supply chain.
The Valencia-based company specializes in making rubber, metal and Teflon hydraulic hose assemblies for the aerospace and automotive industries. Its customers include Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Singapore Aerospace and Rolls Royce.
To compete for lucrative contracts in the global marketplace during an economic recession, President David W. Bill recognized that it was increasingly important to have the AS9100 certification. The standard includes quality and safety elements that are specific to the aerospace industry.
"This gives the company credibility and allows us to compete in the global market," said Bill. "It opens the door because people around the world know AS9100 is the top of the top." Since providing clients with copies of the impressive certificate, Bill said there has been "a big upswing" in quotes for services. He recently hired a salesman to generate new business and directly pitch to the government and other customers rather than going through an intermediary.
Earning the certification was hard work, however. It involved changing the day-to-day operations on the production floor. To upgrade their quality control systems, the company posted instructions at each work area and provided itemized lists for testing the products. The company improved cross training standards and tracked and measured whether they were meeting their quality objectives such as on-time delivery.
Throughout the process, Aero Component used the services of California Manufacturing Technology Consulting(TM). To learn how CMTC can help your business reduce costs and increase profits, please contact Fabio Gomez at (310) 809-6614 or fgomez@cmtc.com.
