TORONTO, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Telus Corp, Canada's No. 2 phone company, posted a lower quarterly profit on Friday and cut its earnings outlook for the year because of the weak economy. Telus, which this week began selling Apple's popular iPhone, said it earned C$280 million ($261.7 million), or 87 Canadian cents a share, in the three months ended Sept. 30. That was down from a profit of C$286 million, or 89 Canadian cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue dipped to C$2.41 billion from C$2.45 billion a year earlier. Analysts were expecting the company to post revenue of C$2.44 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. Telus said it added 131,000 new postpaid, or longer-term, wireless subscribers in the quarter. That compared with 133,000 additions a year earlier. "Uncertainty regarding the strength and persistence of the economic recovery, and high competitive intensity continue to affect wireless," the company said in a statement. Average monthly revenue per wireless user was C$59.45 in the quarter, down from C$64.14 a year earlier, Telus said. It said it now expects 2009 basic earnings per share to be between C$3.10 and C$3.30, compared to a previous range of between C$3.35 and C$3.55.
