ISTANBUL, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Turkey plans to open a tender competition by the end of the year to construct and operate an airport in western Turkey, Orhan Birdal, general manager of the state-owned Airports Authority, said on Tuesday. Birdal was reported as saying by the state-run Anatolian news agency that he hoped to complete the tendering in January 2010. The Zafer Airport will serve the provinces of Kutahya, Afyon, Eskisehir and Usak. "We are targetting to have the tender for Zafer Airport finished by the first month of 2010 ... The airport will have a 3,000 metre long runway and the construction will be done in two years," said Birdal. Birdal added the airports authority will open tenders in 2010 for reconstruction work for an airport in the eastern province of Van, and construction of new terminal buildings at Agri, Adiyaman and Balikesir airports.
