MUMBAI, Nov 11 (Reuters) - India's central bank bought a net $80 million in intervention in September, less than half of its net purchases of $181 million in August when the rupee had hit a two-month high, its bulletin showed Wednesday. The Reserve Bank of India bought $260 million and sold $180 million in September, when the rupee traded mostly in a 49 to 48 per dollar range and strengthened over the month. For April to September, the first six months of the 2009/10 fiscal year, the central bank was a net seller of $2.67 billion. During September, the partially convertible rupee peaked 47.85 per dollar on the 23rd, its highest since Aug 10, due to investment flows and a weakening dollar. During September, foreign fund inflows into the Indian equity market was $4.1 billion, up from $800 million in August. Since September the rupee has gained further on investment inflows and further dollar weakness. It closed trade on Wednesday at 46.29/30 per dollar.
