AMSTERDAM - Dutch police say three Britons suspected of a robbery in the Netherlands have died of injuries incurred when their car crashed shortly after the alleged crime.

Two others, also British nationals, remain hospitalized. All were men, aged 21 to 28.

According to police, the men broke open an automated teller machine in the city of Driel, near Arnhem, Netherlands, in the early hours of Saturday morning. Its cash box exploded, covering the cash with ink. The men took the stained money and fled the scene by car.

The car reportedly crashed a half hour later. Two of the men died on Saturday, and the third died late Sunday.

Police spokesman Ronald van der Leeden said Monday reports that the men crashed during a police chase were wrong.
