With Gatorade dropping its Tiger Woods-branded drink, many people have wondered about the relationship between PepsiCo and the pro golfer. Cramer put the question to CEO Indra Nooyi during Thursday’s Mad Money.
Woods, well known for his endorsement of Pepsi’s Gatorade, recently took an indefinite leave from professional golf for alleged marital “transgressions.” That’s why Accenture, which once ran ads with the tagline “we know what it takes to be a Tiger,” has ended that campaign. But Nooyi was less definitive.
“Tiger Woods is a great golfer,” the Pepsi CEO said, “so I would just leave it there.”
Nooyi told Cramer that “the best athletes want to be associated with Gatorade,” pointing to New York Yankees short stop Derek Jeter. And Pepsi would continue to focus on its “diversified portfolio” of sports stars, she said, to sell the product.
