Market Movers: Jobs Report, RIMM...

Friday, 26 Mar 2010 | 5:53 PM ET

What should you expect from the jobs report, RIM earnings and other events likely to move the market in the week ahead?

Jobs Report

Despite the market holiday on April 2nd, the government will release it's scheduled jobs report on Friday.

The big question: will it confirm or deny this market melt-up?

I think the anticipatation of the jobs number will put a floor under the market, but after it comes out we could see stocks sell-off, says Joe Terranova. Personally, I think the market priced in a number well north of 200,000 new jobs.

RIMM Earnings

RIM is scheduled to report its earnings on Wednesday; the stock typically sees about a 10% move in either direction following earnings.

What's the play here?

JPMorgan upgraded Research In Motion on Friday (as well as Nokia) citing optimism about smartphone growth. And I agree with their call, says Pete Najarian.

Summers End

Meanwhile, a published report out Friday suggests that Larry Summers may soon step down from his job as Chief Economic Advisor.

However, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs says Summers isn't going anywhere, at least for now.

What are the odds?

Daniel Clifton Of Strategas Research Partners puts the odds of a Summers departure at 50%.

Tax Chatter

With health care put to bed, taxes could take center stage on the Hill next week and next quarter.

Will we see higher taxes across the board and if so, who is most vulnerable?

I expect the anticipation of tax increases to dominate the 2nd half of 2010, says Daniel Clifton Of Strategas Research Partners.

Find out why. Watch the video now.
