Pops & Drops: JA Solar, Vornado...

Following are the moves you might have missed. Find out why shares of Ralph Lauren and JA Solar popped while Vornado and AK Steel dropped.

POPS (stocks that jumped higher)

JA Solar (JASO) popped 10%. The company raised its first-quarter sales forecast on Wednesday citing increased demand. - If you think the Obama administration will get people into solar, then the whole sector looks cheap, explains Tim Seymour.

Ciena Corp (CIEN) popped 1%. Investors bid this stock higher as a possible beneficiary of AT&T's plans to build out its networks. - I'd look at American Tower, counsels Gary Kaminsky.

Newmont Mining (NEM) popped 2%. This and other gold miners moved in tandem with the spot price of gold; higher. - Not surprising, says Dennis Gartman.

Staples (SPLS) popped 2%. Barclays initiated coverage of the company at ‘Overweight.’ - Gary Kaminksy doesn't know what to say.

International Paper (IP) popped 4%. Despite broad weakness in commodities, the paper and packaging company broke out.

Ralph Lauren (RL) popped 1%. UBS reiterated the company as a ‘Buy' citing strong industry checks.

DROPS (stocks that slid lower)

Netflix (NFLX) dropped 5%. Barclays Capital downgraded the company to "Equal Weight" from "Overweight" citing the recent rise in share price and concerns over costs. - No good, says Karen Finerman.

AK Steel (AKS) dropped 4%. Investors may have been taking profits after the stock surged earlier in the week. - I'd get out of the steel trade, says Tim Seymour.

Vornado (VNO) dropped 3%. Investors took profits after a new study showed Manhattan commercial real estate leasing and sales activity surged in the first quarter, as companies and investors sought to lock in good deals on falling rents and lower prices ahead of a recovery. - What goes up must come down, chuckles Karen Finerman.
