Germany's Federal Labor Agency says the country's unemployment rate declined to 7.7 percent in May.

The unadjusted jobless rate was down from 8.1 percent in April. The labor agency said Tuesday that a total of 3.242 million people were registered as unemployed -- 165,000 fewer than the previous month.

Agency chief Frank-Juergen Weise said a traditional spring upswing on the labor market continued last month.

Germany has Europe's biggest economy.
