Robert De Niro gained 30 pounds to play a mobster in what film?
Robert De Niro has physically transformed himself for many of his film roles. One such role was that of gangster Al Capone in the 1987 film version of "The Untouchables." In order to attain the same physique as the notorious mobster, he gained 30 pounds, thanks in part to a copious amount of pancakes. "He's very concerned about the shape of his face for the part," director Brian De Palma said before shooting began. And by the way, if you chose "Raging Bull," you're wrong – for that movie, De Niro gained 70 pounds.
