Rally In China’s Hands

Wednesday, 14 Jul 2010 | 5:39 PM ET

China will likely move stocks on Thursday, as Beijing floods the market with a slew of important economic data.

Expect to hear about China’s CPI, GDP, industrial production data as well as other revealing economic data.

What should you expect?

- China’s GDP growth should remain strong at about 10.5%, down slightly from 11.9% in the first quarter, according to the FT.

- CPI will likely keep rising, with analysts predicting a 3.3% increase for June.

Rally in China's Hands
Forget our earnings, China's data tonight will set the tone for markets, with Richard Kang, Emerging Global Shares CIO.

- Industrial production is expected come in at 14.9% in June, down from May’s 16.5% rise

- Also fixed-asset investment in urban areas is expected to rise 25.2% in the January-June period, down from 25.9% growth in the January-May period, says the Wall Street Journal.

If these estimates prove to be correct investors will likely take the data as confirmation that growth in China is slowing, but “not as a cause for concern, economists say, as it doesn’t represent a big change in the trend,” writes the Journal.

What’s the trade?
I’d play China growth with ACH as a beneficiary of infrastructure investment, says Richard Kang of Emerging Global

Or look at FCX , says Joe Terranova, for future copper demand.

I like Teck Resources, says Pete Najarian.
