M&A FAILS TO LIFT STOCKS

After hours traders learned that Dell had only 3 days in which to up its bid for 3Par or lose the acquisition to a rival. As you may remember on Monday, HP proposed acquiring 3Par or $1.6 billion in cash — or $24 a share, compared to Dell’s Friday offer of $18 per share.

What's the takeaway?

It's probably just a result of the original merger agreement - Dell has 3 days to match or beat, muses Karen Finerman. Whoever pays the most will win.

It’s a big concern for me that we’re seeing big M&A deals – not only this one but the Potash deal as well -- and the market isn’t going higher, says Joe Terranova. I'd think the market would climb on this news.

Historically, M&A has been supportive of the market, reminds host Melissa Lee.

Investors seem insecure about growth, muses CNBC's John Fortt. Look at Intel , as an example - they had a record breaking quarter and still investors punished the stock on concerns that growth might not be there in the second half.

I look at these developments from a slightly different angle, adds Karen Finerman. Maybe these deals are lifting the market. Maybe we'd be a lot lower without them.

Can M&A Save US?
A look at whether M&A deals will lead the market and when it will save tech, with CNBC's Jon Fortt.
