As Americans go to the polls to vote in Tuesday's midterm elections, many are feeling pessimistic about the US economy.

In a recent CNBC nationwide survey, 92 percent of the people who responded said they believe the economy is in fair or poor condition. Only 37 percent think the economy will improve in the next year.
