Direct sales giant Amway has tapped Kurt Warner to endorse its stable of vitamins and supplements under its Nutrilite brand.
The privately held company, co-founded by Orlando Magic owner Rich DeVos, sells its products through a network of more than 3 million distributors.
The 76-year-old Nutrilite brand recently started catering more to athletes through a sports nutrition category that includes approximately a dozen products with antioxidant blends that focus on hydration, strength, energy and recovery.
So why was a now retired Warner the best pick?
“When we look at spokespeople, we make sure they are aligned with the values of the brand and the company,” said Jori Hartwig, vice president of marketing for Amway North America. “We love the strong family that he has built, his great rags-to-riches story and his entrepreneurial spirit.”
Hartwig said that Warner’s appearance on “Dancing With The Stars”also helped to broaden his fan base.
Warner is the first NFL player ever to endorse the Nutrilite brand, but other endorsers have included soccer star Ronaldinho, Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell and Chinese hurdler Liu Xiang. The brand also sponsors the AC Milan soccer team and has its name on the Orlando Magic’s new arena.
