Nick Calamos: Top 3 Trades For 2011

Tuesday, 7 Dec 2010 | 5:55 PM ET

All this month CNBC’s Fast Money will be bringing you the top 3 trades for 2011, from top investors.

On Tuesday we turned to legendary tech fund manager Nick Calamos of Calamos Investments who tells us he's betting on Corporate America opening the purse strings a little more next year.

”I think the next phase of the recovery is based on business capital spending kicking into high gear,” says Calamos in a live interview. “I expect to see business capital spending lead the recovery and primarily in the technology sector.

But who will be the big winners?

Top 2011 Trades
The next stage of the recovery will be led by capital spending, with Nick Calamos, Calamos Investments.

Oracle

”It’s a great business, great balance sheet and they have great upside,” he says. “I think they’re well positioned for the cloud computing future that’s coming. 80% of revenue is coming from licensing cloud and services. They have a huge amount of cash to reinvest. And they generate really high rates of return.”

Autonomy

"This is a software company that does unstructured data searches which means they can look into e-mails and anything that’s digital," Calamos says. "In this time of surveillance and compliance it’s a great software product that businesses need. The SEC uses it and Homeland Security uses it. I think it’s a great growth business and also a possible an acquisition target."

Altera

We ran out of time on TV, but ahead of the broadcast Calamos also told us that another favorite name of his in this space is Altera .
