Finerman’s Forecast: The Chairwoman’s Top Trades for 2011

Karen Finerman isn’t afraid of fine print. And she’s been parsing through plenty of it, as she positions for 2011.

What does she know?

The Chairwoman thinks liquid natural gas will be a hot play in 2011. “I think there’s plenty of upside,” she says.

”We’re really seeing day rates on LNG tankers starting to move higher and the number of ships available for hire is way down. That’s a great demand/supply dynamic.

She suggests playing it long Golar.

HEDGING UNDER THE HOOD

Finerman also has auto makers and truckers on her radar. “Both have had a lot of capacity come out of the market,” she explains. But that's not the only catalysts; “some players are newly recapitalized and we’re seeing a global pick-up,” she says.

All these factors should be great for the space.

Finally Karen expects to see “M&A pick up across all spectrums; small-cap, mid-cap and large cap.”

Although there are many ways to play it Finerman’s favorites are long Blackstone and Goldman Sachs. “Either are solid plays on the M&A boom,” she says.
