61% of S&P 500 Reached a New 52-Week High in 2011

So far in 2011, 303 companies, or about 61 percent of the S&P 500 index components reached a new 52-week high.

The energy sector has the greatest percent of new highs in relation to all of its components, standing at 83 percent, or 34 companies. The highest number of new highs, however, belongs to the technology sector, with 53 companies reaching this metric.

Note that energy, industrials and technology stocks are leading the gains two months into the year, up 13, 9 and 8 percent, respectively.


Among the companies hitting new 52-week highs, here is a look at the top ten stocks in each of the top three sectors.
