Japan prime minister Naoto Kan

On the show this morning, we got a spokesperson from Prime Minister Kan's office on the phone.

I asked a simpleton question. "Do you have the situation under control?"

Here's Noriyuki Shikata's response: "Well, um, um, um. Well, well, I do admit that this is a very challenging situation. But we are, um, carrying out the utmost efforts to control the units and we have seen that radiation levels that went up this morning have dropped down to the levels which do not harm human health."

Shikata-san, it was a "yes" or "no" question.
