Stocks Off Lows

Stocks sold off heavily at the open but quickly stabilized and are now well off their lows. Despite uncertainty about exactly what is happening at the nuclear reactors, Nikkei futures which trade at the CME have been rising for a good part of the morning and that undoubtedly helped.

Some Japanese stocks are now positive—Canon and Honda have turned green, Ford and GM are also up. And solar stocks and home builders are also positive—the builders up as homebuilder sentiment moved up in March.

Not changed are nuclear-related stocks like uranium producers and Shaw Group , down 5 percentthough GE is near the highs of the day, down 3 percent, after being down as much as 5 percent at the open
