Following are moves you might have missed. Find out why shares of Dean Foods and Valero popped while Molycorp and Boston Scientific dropped.
POPS (stocks that jumped higher)
Dean Foods (DF) popped 12%. The company reported a first-quarter profit above estimates and raised its forecast as it steps up efforts to cut expenses. - It could also be riding the coat tails of Ralcorp, says Stephen Weiss.
Valero (VLO) popped 3%. Earlier this week Moody's raised the company’s outlook to stable, saying rising industrial activity will lead to modest growth in demand for distillates. - I like this stock, says Brian Kelly.
Sodastream (SODA) popped 7%. Street chatter suggested this company could have the next ‘it’ gadget – a machine that uses carbon dioxide cartridges to carbonate water in reusable bottles. - It's expensive at these levels but I'd bet it goes higher, says Tim Seymour.
Utilities ETF (XLU) popped 1%. With 3-year notes yielding around 1%, boring’ utilities weren’t so boring after all.
DROPS (stocks that slid lower)
Molycorp (MCP) dropped 7%. Investors may be anticipating some profit taking when a lock-up period for company insiders ends on Wednesday.
Boston Scientific (BSX) dropped 8%. Word that chief executive Ray Elliott planned to step down at the end of 2011, after less than two years at the helm, triggered speculation that something was amiss at this company.
Intermune (ITMN) dropped 9%. An institutional investor announced plans to sell some if not all of its position in this company.- No good, says Tim Seymour.
