Jim Hagedorn, Scotts Miracle-Gro

On June 3, 2013, Scotts Miracle-Gro reprimanded CEO and Chairman Jim Hagedorn for using inappropriate language.

The reprimand came as three board members resigned and would not be replaced.

What was interesting was that the lawn and garden care company did not provide any context for the remarks. However, in the wake of Hagedorn's apology, he said he and board considered the matter "resolved," and he pledged to make "a personal commitment to prevent a future recurrence."
