Best and Worst Performing Stocks in May 2011

With May coming to an end today, here is a look at the best and worst performing stocks within the major US averages, as of midday trading.

The Dow is on track to end a five-month winning streak, currently down about 2.3 percent in May (The NASDAQ Composite is down 2.1 percent while the S&P 500 has declined 1.9 percent).

Indeed, only four out of ten S&P 500 sectors are up this month, led by consumer staples with a gain of 2 percent. Health care, utilities and telecom are the other three sectors in the black. Energy stocks are down the most, with a loss of nearly 5 percent.
