Thirty years and some 135 missions later, NASA is retiring the Space Shuttle program.

Although that may not mean much to some, supporters say it leaves the U.S. in the embarrassing position of having to use someone else's space craft to visit the International Space Station.

Opponents of the program say the move is long overdue because any worthy return on the massive investment is long gone.
