Rupert Murdoch's growing phone-hacking scandal continues to be the media story of the moment.
What has gone unnoticed is the connection from this scandal to another scandal involving phone records.
In 2006, Hewlett-Packard was thrown into chaos following an investigation into who could have leaked company information to the press.
Former Chairwoman of the Board Patricia Dunn launched an investigation into the leak that resulted in, among other things, bringing the word "pretexting" into the common lexicon. According to Merriam-Webster.com, pretexting is "the practice of presenting oneself as someone else in order to obtain private information."
At that time, HP boardmember Tom Perkins, one of the founders of venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. resigned in protest.
His attorney was former Assistant Attorney General of the United States Viet Dinh.
Both Tom Perkins and Viet Dinh sit on the Board of News Corp..
The question now is, what will these two men do next?
