CNBC Titans

Moguls, Mavericks and Empires -- Barry Diller is the media mogul with the Midas touch and the man behind some of Hollywood’s biggest hits. -- Barry Diller -- Media Executive

ABOUT THE SHOW

Barry Diller is one of the most successful media titans in history. As CEO of Paramount Pictures, creator of the Fox Network and CEO of InterActiveCorp (IAC), Diller revolutionized the media industry.

His meteoric rise is a classic Hollywood success story. A college dropout, Diller’s ambition propelled him up the ranks of ABC network and into the Chairmanship of Paramount Pictures where he oversaw the classic television shows Laverne and Shirley, Taxi and Cheers. Following the success of a series of blockbuster movies, including Grease and Raiders of the Lost Ark, Diller left the studio to run the Fox Network overseeing breakout programming that turned the financially troubled network around. But Diller wanted to build an empire and set out to chart his own course. He later purchased a stake in QVC and went on to buy the Home Shopping Network.

While many of his contemporaries were indifferent to the Internet, Diller embraced it wholeheartedly. He founded IAC and purchased some of the web’s most prestigious real estate, including Match.com and Expedia. By 2005 Barry Diller was one of the highest paid executives with an annual salary of $295 million.
