ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., August 1, 2011—CNBC, First in Business Worldwide, today announced it will host a presidential debate with the Michigan Republican Party and Oakland University on Wednesday, November 9th. With the fate of the U.S. economy hanging in the balance, this debate, which will take place one year before the general election, will focus on the key issues facing voters—jobs, taxes, the deficit and the health of our national economy. The debate will be held at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan and broadcast exclusively from 8PM-10PM ET on CNBC.
“It is clear that, in large part, the outcome of this election will turn substantially on the state of the American economy. CNBC’s team of financial journalists are best positioned to challenge the candidates on the critical business, economic and financial issues of our time," said Mark Hoffman, CNBC President. "By partnering with the Michigan GOP and Oakland University, we have the unique opportunity to host the debate in a crucial battle ground state with an unemployment rate over ten percent, making it the perfect place for the candidates to present their plans to revive the nation.”"Michigan has been especially hard hit by the national economic downturn, and voters are eager to put a new leader in the White House in 2012," said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak. "This debate will showcase Republican ideas to grow jobs and bring prosperity back to Michigan and our country."
"As an institution of higher learning, Oakland University supports activities that allow American citizens to make educated decisions about the political candidates vying to represent them," Oakland University President Gary Russi said. "We're pleased to host a Republican national debate as a critical part of the broader democratic process that will determine who will be elected president in the 2012 election."
