CNBC Poll: Do You Expect to Receive Social Security?

Pessimism about the Social Security program is growing wide and deep.

Younger Americans doubt they’ll ever see a check, while older ones are worried about cutbacks to benefits.

Most 18 to 34 year olds believe that the entitlement program will run out of money by the time they retire, say Gallup polls.

That view is not unfounded. According to the U.S. Social Security Administration, if reform is not undertaken, trust-fund reserves will be insufficient to pay full benefits after 2037.

Though many believe Social Security to be vital for the nation's well-being, most young Americans doubt the entitlement will exist when they reach retirement age.
